A Digital Business or A Direct Sales Business is where distributors, consultants or sales representatives make money selling a well established product directly to the customers. There is no retail store or a certain location where these products are sold. Sales can be made via parties, demo videos, online or via networking.
Here are the reasons I decided to start a Direct Sales Business:
Flexibility – I work full time and needed a business which I could run on the side without quitting my job. With the Direct Sales business it was ideal and I could run it anytime and from anywhere in the world.
Low Cost to Start – Unlike your typical brick and mortar business a Digital Business has a very low start up. After going into a lot of debt from Amazon FBA the low start-up gave me a chance to start again.
No On-going Fees – There was no hidden cost or on-going fees with the Digital Business. You just have one-off start up cost and that’s it.
Product – Unlike Amazon or Dropshipping you don’t have to spend hours researching for the “right” product. If you pick the right Direct Sales company chances are people already know about the product and you just have to enlighten your customers of it benefits.
Everything is done for You – When I started my Digital Business the start-up cost covered everything, step-by-step training, support and even my website was built for me. All I had to do was choose a design.
No Physical Labour Required – Unlike my Vending Machine business there is no intensive labour required and I don’t have to be physically present to run my business. There is no heavy lifting and the only lifting I do is of my fingers and spend time on social media.
Passive Business – Once you successfully set up your business it will become fully passive. Business owners have been able to fully automate the business and only actively run the business a few hours a week or fortnight.
Here are some challenges of starting a Direct Sales or Digital Business.
Unawareness – People usually assume that a Direct Sales Business is a MLM (Multi Level Marketing) or a Pyramid Scheme. Which can sometimes put the customers off if they are listening to their family and friends. However this can be tackled once you educate and inform your customer how a Direct Sales business is not a MLM or Pyramid Scheme.
Not A Real Business – Many people also believe that Direct Sales is not a real business as it’s not your typical brick and mortar business or it is a get rich quick scheme. If you have ever come across an Avon Representative (Avon was of the oldest Direct Sales companies) and asked them if it was get rich quick scheme they will ensure you it was most certainly not. Like any other business you really have to work towards this business initially for it to be successful.
No matter what your reasons for starting a Direct Sales business it is definitely worth doing your research before starting any business as not all Direct Sales companies were created equal.
